Quatermain's Journal

Not every expedition ends with a remarkable discovery. Sometimes the obstacle itself becomes the story.

These sticks accompany me whenever stone proves less willing to cooperate than I had hoped. They have opened blocked passages, loosened collapsed entrances and, on more than one occasion, convinced me that standing further away is usually the wiser choice.

The examples shown here are my own interpretation of the equipment carried by explorers during another age, built as working film props rather than historical replicas.

Every adventure eventually reaches a point where patience runs out and a fuse begins.

The Mystery

Exploration has always demanded ingenuity. Long before modern machinery, blasting powder and later dynamite transformed the way tunnels, mines and forgotten chambers were opened. Whether clearing a collapsed passage or revealing what centuries had concealed, controlled force became another tool in the explorer's pack.

Quatermain Field Observation

These are not replicas of a specific historical artifact, but an interpretation of the spirit of adventure itself. Sometimes the greatest discoveries lie only a few feet beyond a wall that refuses to move.
